I agree with you. Linking a suicide hotline and locking the post does not necessarily help user(s). It silences them from the struggles that they are facing

Copy pasting my reply (also I agree about the silencing thing, I think it’s important to address people going through this, I’m just wary about doing it so publicly as that can stress out many other people)
Tw // s***ide, professional help, toxicity,
”I agree, I just think searching for help on a site like this won’t do any good in the long term, and thinking it will could be harmful. I don’t agree with locking posts necessarily, but I also don’t agree with using a non-professional site for professional help, help that can only come from professionals, and I think ranting like this can be helpful, but not under the expectations that people will give mental help. And posts like that can be extremely toxic to people even without trying. I think it would be better to post asking for private conversations rather than sharing it so publicly, I remember people posting about how triggering of an atmosphere they created even if they didn’t read them, and I have to agree. I’m not saying people can’t rant, but when it gets to the point of repeatedly saying that someone’s going to kill themselves.... I think that crosses a line, some things are just too serious for non-professional resources to deal with. Btw, I don’t hate you at all. I completely respect you and your opinions, and as a mod I care about helping others feel safe, not myself, so whatever is best for everyone else, I’m cool with, I’m just sharing what I personally feel. And to reiterate, I’m always available to talk, anyone feeling suicidal can message me privately if they’re afraid to post publicly. /gen”
Not everyone has access to professional help. They may even be restricted from doing do for various reasons
Tw // s***ide
I know personally for me, when there’s a lot of negative s***ide posts, even when I don’t read them, it makes my mental health a lot worse and makes me not feel as safe on the wiki. I’m not saying that my mental health is more important than people getting the help they need if they’re suicidal, but I am saying that I think posting about it so publicly isn’t always best because of how triggering it can be and how it can just hurt the community as a whole. Idk. Like I said, whatever makes other people feel safest is what I’ll support, this is just how I feel about it. I don’t mean to invalidate anyone
@Reign of the breadsticcs i already responded to your comment on the other thread, but i'll respond to this one too. People have an option to read the vents. there are trigger warnings for a reason. Public venting can help sometimes. Youve probably heard a song about suicide on the radio before. That's public venting and its there for a reason. Because it HELPS. it lets you know you've been heard.
What do you think?
