[tw: swears, school]
Oh my fucking god. So I'm taking AP Psych this year and when the teacher gave us our textbook the first thing I did was look up DID in it. The book was published a decade ago so I knew the info would be inaccurate but it's like. offensively inaccurate.
"DID is an extremely rare disorder-" no the fuck it isn't, some psychologists estimate that up to one percent - that's one out of every one hundred people - has a dissociative disorder.
"The main person in the body usually doesn't know the others exist"- uh. no??? That does happen, but it's not the typical case. The "main person"/core will usually discover their headmates at some point, just typically not until they're in their teens or twenties.
I'm so pissed, I'm seriously considering talking to my teacher and being like you know this is inaccurate af right??
