I'd like to have somewhat of an open discussion about our guidelines around:
Resourcing pages
The new page guidelines and what does/doesn't constitute a page
Recoining
Anything else you might have to add about the community guidelines/editing guidelines/new page guidelines/style guide, etc
There's obviously a lot to talk about and I'd like to gauge some opinions.
We all want this wiki to be an accurate and reliable resource; we all want the wiki to uphold its integrity, and to properly respect coiners. Unfortunately, this hasn't always manifested in practice, as I'm sure a lot of you are aware and a lot still needs to be improved here.
I would like to consider a rule that would require a page to be sourced properly upon creation, either via a link to an original coining post, Discord screenshot of the coining, etc. Under this rule, new pages without proper resources would be removed (there may need to be some exceptions around terms that are very popular/common but have an unclear origin, etc).
I would also like to consider removing some pages that are not sourced (provided that it isn't clear they were coined via the creation of a wiki article before the guidelines were changed to disallow this). I'm not exactly sure whether this would be a positive thing to do in practice.
Also, rules around recoining have gotten a little stricter over the past months and recoining is punishable, which is great ofc. I'd like to hear any thoughts about the current rules on recoining, adding additional definitions to terms/terms with the same name, etc. For example, I've heard it suggested that folks shouldn't be allowed to coin terms with the same name as an existing term (whether said term already has a page or not).
What do folks think about the current guidelines about what is/isn't allowed to be a page?
What are folk's views on, in the style guide, allowing a heading for "Coiner Boundaries" or something similar, where a coiner can state their boundaries around alternate flags, term usage, etc (or if it has already been stated, someone can add the section with a link to where the coiner said as such)?
If you see any good posts from Tumblr, etc, discussing this sort of thing, please feel free to link them below.
Also if there are any terms that still need editing to be aligned with their original definitions please let me know.
