Hi everyone,
I shared this over on the new wiki, but I want to take a moment to share it here as well.
I've seen many users sharing lots of very sensitive personal information, so I wanted to make a quick post talking about some of the risks associated with that. Please always keep in mind that anything shared to the internet will be there forever.
Sharing things like your personal trigger warnings may seem like a way to simply advise others, but it also means trolls and vandals know exactly how to get under your skin.
Regarding age, location and social media information, these may seem like small things, but the internet does not forget. Say you post age in one comment, general location in another, and social media in the third. If someone takes all three of these, they can narrow down your real world location, which is extremely dangerous. Always remember that not everyone on the internet is your friend, and not all have good intentions.
Remember, the internet is not always a safe place. While you can find amazing communities and friends, always protect yourself too. My advice is always keep personal information to a minimum, be careful who you reveal sensitive information to, and please always be careful.
